Thank you so much. I've looked all over the web for something to automactically import lyrics into iTunes. The only ones ive been able to find were for Mac OSX, thank you for making this for windows. I found it by searching google and i found the google code page for it.

please let me know if you have any issues with it.

Thanks for the app! It's great. But what about some enhancements?

- option to only download lyrics only for tracks without lyrics. It will speed up the process if it could skip tracks that does not have any lyrics.
- if the track can not be found, I'd like to be able to search manualyl using your app. In many cases the lyrics can not be found due to spelling of the track/band name

Thanks

Thanks for writing the app!

I have been looking for something like this. I am a 20+ year coder, and have been working with C# since 2001 so if this is something that really looks good and you can use some help perhaps I can donate a little time to the project.

Hey, this is a great program. You know, the admins at Lyricwiki would love to know about this program. I would really like to see the search function and some other things implemented here when the admins over at lyricwiki finally get them ready. I wouldn't mind telling them about this and making some improvements in the future if you are working on other things. But again, excellent work. This is great!

Hey,
I love this program, this is really something I was missing untill now.

I just installed it, but I get some the "g" and ' in the lyrics I download are replaced by following string: '. Can anyone tell how I can fix this ? Thanks

Jeff

Senthil said...

Hi Jeff,

Can you please be more specific? May be can you tell me the lyrics that you were having problem with? Like the artist, album and song name. Thanks.

Senthil said...

Hi Ben,
I love your enthusiasm towards the world of music and related. But I do not know anybody from the lyricwiki, so I do not have any control over what they do. Thanks.

Ben said...

Thanks for the reply. The admins at Lyricwiki seem to really let the reigns out of there. I think you can do pretty much anything but delete a page. They have a plugin page where you can go post the link to your plugin. I think a ton of people would use this. If you don't mind, I would love to post it over there and link back to you, full credit and all that. I am also getting involved with LyricWiki and I know updates are coming out all the time. If you are not interested in keeping up development on this program, I certainly am. But if you are, I will keep you informed about LyricWiki :)

hello,

very eager to try out the app but when i try to launch it i get this error:

"
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.
"

i'm running windows xp sp2 on a core2duo cpu.

Senthil said...

Probably the .net run time is not installed.

Senthil,

Thanks a lot for the app.
It is great, thought it crashes sometimes with no aparent reason.
It works really fast.

I do have a suggestion thought.
Some lyrics, in the wikilyric database, start with "the", and iTunes cuts it off when encoding from CDs. For example, the song "the truth beneath the rose", by within temptation is referred in iTunes as "truth beneath the rose". This specific lyric wasnt found using the importer, so you could change the app so it ignores "the" within song names and band names.

Thanks again!

Anonymous said...

Well I keep using the importer so I can feel if there´s anything missing... and just now I´ve noticed that the Lyricwiki is still a little database. My suggestion now is that you add some other lyric source to the app, like www.reallyrics.com , www.lyricsdot.ru , www.leoslyrics.com (this particular one is very good) or lyrics.astraweb.com .

Using this 4 sources you´ll cover practically every lyric there is!

Thanks again.

Hi Barz,

Thanks for your suggestions, the other lyrics sites that I have seen does not have clear apis to use them as a data source. Lyricswiki has very good web service interfaces, that I am using.

Senthil said...

Hi Ben,
Please feel free to make any improvements that you think are needed. The code for this is available in the Google projects site (http://code.google.com/p/ilyrics/source)

If you want, I can also add you as a project member. Please send me your details.

Anonymous said...

It would have been fantastic to have an option so manually search for an artist, album, track title. This is because there may some variations in spelling and the application can not find the correct track. I'm not sure if the API supports this, but what about:
- search for an artist (partial name may be accepted. Like "Ozzy" gives both "Osbourne, Ozzy" and "Ozzy Osbourne"
- list all albums by this artist
- select album and list all tracks in the album
- select track, and the mp3 is tagged

:-)

Very nice app. I found an issue with it and thought you might want to know about it: The application seemed to crash when i tried to get lyrics for a podcast that were deleted, but still in the library list.

Anonymous said...

Hello, I've got the software loading and running, but on every song in my library it comes up with "no result" when I click on get lyrics. I've search lyricwiki and I know it has the lyrics as well. Any thoughts on how I can get this to work?
Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I figured out why your software won't work with my itunes library. I tagged every song Name to include the artist name first. Example the song name of Jump by Van Halen looks like "Van Halen - Jump"
If I remove the artist name and just leave the song name it works. Too bad, I would have loved to use this software.

Anonymous said...

Great App!

I'm using it atm and I've recognised some problems:

- It does not follow redirects in the wiki (Example: http://lyricwiki.org/index.php?title=Kaiser_Chiefs:Everyday_I_Love_You_Less_And_Less)
I think this shouldn't be very hard to fix.

- If there are only small changes in the song's or the artist's name, it doesn't find any lyric (Example: http://lyricwiki.org/Kaiser_Chiefs:Caroline_Yes instead of "Caroline, Yes")
I don't know wheter it is possible to fix this issue, but you could probably use the search function and let the program choose the first result (probably optionally, like the overwrite function).

If you could fix these little problems, the app would be perfect!

Something else: You should add your App to the Plugin page of the lyricWiki (http://lyricwiki.org/LyricWiki:Plugins)

Anonymous said...

awesome! awesome! awesome!
I was begining to manually update the lyrics on all my music by cutting and pasting from lyrics sites. This would have taken months with over 10,000 songs! I think you're program will take less than 2 hours. AWESOME.

2 observations:
1. no minimize?
2. I wondered if you were updating the song files directly or if you were telling itunes to do it. I guess it is the latter because if I open the info dialog to look at lyrics while it is working it causes your program to crash. Possibly have your program do a check to see if the dialog is already open and have it pause updating until the dialog is closed, or give a popup to tell the user to close the info dialog.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the app .. although can you add support for proxy authorization in the next version??

Anonymous said...

This program is exactly what I've been searching for for quite some time. Unfortunately when I go to run it I get a pop up box that says:

Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\INSTALLRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location

I have no idea what it's asking for or even if there is something that can be fixed or changed so the program will work. Do you have any idea?

-Ty

Anonymous said...

I think probably the .net run time is not installed or not proper.

Anonymous said...

So any chance we might see a version of this for Mac OS? I've tried a number of the lyrics grabbing apps available for Mac and none seem to do particularly well - the bulk of the songs' lyrics are not found. I'd love to give this program a shot - there is nothing for Macs that uses Lyricwiki (that I know of).

Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Totally awesome software! Simple and it works! LOVE IT.

Anonymous said...

Hi Senthil,

Great app, I've been looking for something like this for a long time, it does exactly what I want.

One problem though is that it is unable to find songs that are misspelt, or not spelt the same as those in the LyricsWiki database. The main one is if the song is named, for example, 'Track (live)'.

Considering that some tracks do usually have brackets, do you think it would be possible if, in the case that the track is not found and the title contains brackets, the brackets and contained text is removed and the search is performed again.

Also, any text after feat. or feat or ft. or ft should be ignored if a result isn't returned the first time.

Thanks

Thank you very much for a very useful app..
Although, I have been encountering problems with the program lately. It updates the majority of my tracks with "no found" despite the presence of the lyrics on the wiki site.. I checked all the spelling in artist, album etc.. But it still gives me "no found" for about 70-80% of tracks.. I've been using the app for over a month now, but only in the past few days, it started to write this "no found" message.. Please help!
Many thanks!

Help! Sorry to seem ignorant - but how can I view the lyrics without having to open the 'info' properties for the song i'm playing?

Great program that did what was expected very well. However, when I sync'd about 500 lyrics onto my iPod Touch 32GB, it used an extra 2.5GB of space. Is that something to do with iTunes or the way the lyrics are stored? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I ran the program, and it found no lyrics. I realized that I have formatted the artist name as Paisley, Brad rather than Brad Paisley, and it seems that it doesn't recognize the artist and can't find the lyrics.

Any suggestions?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for making this plug-in, it's a great enhancement for iTunes !

If you're planning an update, I have this suggestions:
- adding different sites (apart from lyricwiki) to retrieve lyrics
- implementing "multiple queries" to question lyricwiki (or whatever site) for lyrics to a song several times, when the song title e.g. contains brackets - often titles are marked as "Titlename (feat. Somebody)", which makes it that the lyrics can't be found. A second query leaving out the addition in brackets may result in a hit.
- if possible, a parsing of foreign characters in the lyrics would be great. I have a couple of German lyrics which display with the correct characters on lyricwiki but in iTunes/iPod the Umlauts are broken

Greetings, B.

Nice program but...

Every time I try to update my libraries lyrics I will eventually get the error message "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component." And the program halts until I click the ok button.

Wouldn't be such a big deal but having to hit ok every 10 songs or so when trying to add lyrics to about 8000 songs is rather time consuming. Any ideas on a fix?

Anonymous said...

Okay, I'm a dunce. Does this work on iTunes on the PC or only the iPod? I can run it, and it indicates it gets the lyrics, but I cannot figure out how to see them in my iTunes 7.5.

Great plugin! It would be helpful if it did some sort of fuzzy matching when the song has a "featuring ..." artist. When the artist says something like "Lecrae Feat. Cam" and LyricsWiki only finds on Lecrae, it doesn't have a match. Appreciate your hard work here!

Doctor Tarr said...

lyricwiki.org is broken right now. I've got over a hundred songs selected, so I've got to OK a dialog box with each one.

It would be nice if there was a "cancel" option that would give up.

Here's the error in the dialog box, and I am getting the lower part at lyricwiki.org:

Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=UTF-8', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with the error message:
--
Host 'pedlfaster.pedlr.com' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'
--.

Anonymous said...

I have the same problem as Doctor Tarr.

Apparently, the entire LyricWiki site is down, so the importer can't get any lyrics from it.

Can this be fixed, somehow? I really want this thing to work.

An incredibly helpful application. Like others, I would like more abilities to manually search, but I do have one problem when lyrics are found. When I update a song with lyrics, it removes track information from the tags. For ex.: if a song tag has "track number:4 of 20", the program removes the "20". Not a big deal, but it would be nice if the program didn't remove other information from my song tags.

Anonymous said...

It's a great application. However, if you have something like

The Wind Blows (feat. Homie)

Then the lyric finder won't find it. Because it has (feat. Homie) on it, which might variate from the finder. Maybe do a hit and miss. I mean, it should search for artists first, then the artists track titles. If it finds any variation of "The Wind Blows", maybe it'll auto update it, and if not, maybe a confirmation message pops up asking if you want to use the lyrics found.
Other than that, a great application! Thanks

This makes iTunes+Ipod soo much better, not sure why apple has not caught on to this, or why they don't have anything to Auto-Tag ID3 Tags, or have anything to embed artwork, or to autofill in the disk, track number- ext ext ext. maybe you should make something better than iTunes, maybe sell music in higher quality without a crappy DRM, i don't understand apple sometimes, genius, but lacking in little things

Great program! The only thing I have a problem with is the fact that it seems you can't edit lyrics once they've been added to a song. :(

I tried removing the songs from my iTunes, uninstalling the program, reinstalling the program, putting the songs back in iTunes, etc. I cannot get to the point where I can change the lyrics for these songs, which is sad because there are some pretty big errors in them.

Any help with that?

Awesome! works like a charm!

Just a suggestion: Please, do not fill de lyrics with "not found" when it's... not found :P

Thanks, and good job!

Hello Senthil, I have been using iTunes Lyrics Importer and it is a fantastic application (Congratulations!!!).
I just would like to point a small problem that you could address in a future update. Let's illustrate with an example: The Metallica song named "The Unforgiven III" did not show results when searched via iTunes Lyrics Importer, although there is a page at LyricWiki.org for it. Turns out that the page is named "The_Unforgiven_III". If it was named "The_Unforgiven_Iii" the update through the application works - I created a new page with this name to be sure. Is there anything you can do to solve this problem? Thank you for your time.
Best Regards. Véber Bravo.

Fantastic Program, it was just what I was looking for. There is one problem that I have, I know the cause but it is rather irritating. The program crashes if any songs are missing in your library. If you could make it skip missing songs then that would be good.

Another (minor) change I would like to see implemented is to not put "Not Found" in the lyric box if it cannot find it, perhaps have a list of failed songs upon completion.

Thanks for the great program!

Hi!

Grat tool, with just one bad problem. I'm from Aurtia and have also lot's of German language songs on. iLyrics can not handle "ä, ö, ü, ß,',.... ".
To fix this problem would be very very nice!

I love the simplicity of this program.

I'm not sure if lyricwiki makes this possible - but you might be able to correct or add information to songs like track number, album, album art, etc, as well as adding lyrics. you'd be killing 2 birds with one stone!

nice work :D

Love the program, just have one small problem.

Half of the ' apostrophies, get changed to "’" in the lyrics.

I have some international fonts installed, so I don't know if that changes things. But almost every song, I have to do 3 minutes of editing to change these ’ to '...

Anyway, I am using Vista 64 bit with all latest service packs, and the latest itunes.

Hi,

There is a problem when lyrics are not found in the database.

The iLyrics would input "Not Found" into the Lyrics in iTunes instead of leaving it alone. This didn't happen in the past, i think it's a database issue.

Please fix it by not filling in anything if "Not Found" is returned as a result from the database.

It would be nice if the auto update window showed if the lyrics could not be found under the results heading so we know to check to make sure the song name/artist is spelled correctly.
Also, if you try to view the lyrics of a song while other songs are being updated, you get an error message and the program crashes.
Great App! i use it alot

This app dosen't work with itunes 8, I installed it and I get an application error and my only option is tho quit the app. Any chance for a fix?

Thank you! Works great with iTunes 8.0.2

I get this error occasionally:
The underlying connection was closed. A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server.

But it's okay, it just continues. Keep up the good work.

A lot of times, it doesn't work because of the song title's like: Cruise Control (feat. Damian Marley)

If there's a "featuring" part in a song title, the lyrics are always "Not Found".

Make newer version, perhaps?

Just came across this. Great app.
Problem I observed - if theres an apostrophe in a word like in "don't" or "can't" or "I'm",
the apostrophe gets translated into some wierd "A"-looking character.
This is what it ends up looking like:
"ItÂ’s a downward spiral" instead of "It's a downward spiral".

any thoughts?

Very cool, nice and easy to use without overhead.

If you have missing files in iTunes, it'll crash the importer.

I might also suggest using threadding to make it faster. Essentially divide the selected songs into X groups, and running the importer simultaneously on each group.

It works pretty well already.

Last post by the deleveoper is 1,5 years old, is this thing still being maintained?

Great Program! I have noticed that if I select a lot of songs (I don't know the exact # but I started will all my A artists and it didn't like it so I had to use smaller chunks) it gives an error. Also if the title of the song has something added to it such as "(Live)" or "Extended", it won;t recognize it.
Keep up the good work!

P.S. I'd love to see the same functionality for Guitar Tab!
